If a piano is in good working condition and has been tuned relatively regularly, a single tuning should be adequate to bring the instrument back in tune.
Piano Tuning Cost: $100.00
Often if pianos have not been tuned for many years, they will go flat in pitch to the extent that the tuner will have to tune the instrument twice. This is called a “pitch raise”. There is no fast way to do a pitch raise. On the first tuning, the strings are raised a calculated amount above normal pitch. This is done to allow for stretch.
Pitch Raise Cost: $200.00
The soundboard of the piano consequently is always slowly rising and falling which causes variations in the pitch of the piano.
